Betty Jane Flynn, 81, of Middletown, passed away on October 11, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 27, 1945, in New Castle, to the late Carl and Ruth (Marlatt) Chew.
Betty will be remembered as a woman of warmth, spirit, and many simple joys that brought happiness to those around her. She was a 1963 graduate of Lewisville High School, where she was a cheerleader and participated in 4-H baking during her school years. She grew up on a farm and shared stories of rising at 4 a.m. to milk the cows.
She loved music and dancing, and she took delight in the things that made life lively and fun. Betty was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR, the Pacers, and the Colts, and she loved talking with her family about the stats and events from Colts games. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers and truly had a green thumb; her garden was once featured in a garden show, a fitting recognition of the beauty she cultivated. Betty enjoyed fishing and loved the beauty of the Western states and enjoyed when she traveled through them.
At home, Betty enjoyed many comforting pastimes. She loved her puppy dogs, enjoyed working puzzles, and liked playing cards, especially euchre. She was fond of western television shows such as Little House on the Prairie and Gunsmoke, and she also enjoyed crocheting. In the kitchen, she was known for making what many considered the best chocolate pie ever. She had a sweet tooth and especially loved ice cream and oatmeal cookies.
Through memories she created, the people she touched, the flowers she grew, and the treats she made, Betty leaves behind a legacy of comfort, personality, and affection that will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Brian Flynn (fiancé Marla Hunter), Brenda Talktington, Beth (Brian) Troxell, and Brent Flynn; grandchildren, Leslie Cross, Hannah Flynn, Hayden Lohrey, Bridget Lohrey, Chloe Talktington, Annah Money, Whitney (Tyler) Robinette, and Kenzie (Trevar) Denney; siblings, Mandy McConnell, Jim (Sue) Chew, and Irvin Chew; special caregiver and loved one, Jan Flynn; and her best friend, Barb Wills.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Flynn; and siblings, Ivan Chew and Edward Chew.
Services will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Friday. You may express condolences or share a memory of Betty at www.ballardandsons.com.
