Middletown

Curtis Maritt Songer, 67, passed away on October 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 7, 1959, in Anderson to the late Kenneth and Mary (White) Songer.

Curtis lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a generous spirit that touched the people around him. He attended Anderson High School and went on to work as a brick mason, becoming a member of the brick layers union.

Curtis will be remembered as happy, loving, talkative, and helpful. He was the kind of person people knew they could call whenever help was needed or something needed to be fixed. He was always ready to lend a hand.

He found great joy in the people he loved most. Family and cars were his two most important things, and many of the memories he leaves behind are centered on both. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and he loved spending time in his garage working on cars. He especially treasured the hours spent there with his grandsons, passing time side by side. He also loved watching his granddaughters play softball and may have even gotten a little loud a time or two while cheering them on.

At home, Curtis created a place where family gathered and where simple moments became lasting memories. He always made sure the pool was ready whenever his family wanted to come swim, and many will remember him pushing the grandkids on the tree swing at his house. He also loved his dogs, just like they were a part of his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 25 years, Diana Songer; his children, Charlie (Leslie) Kilgore, Sabrina (Chad) Toffolo, Lindsey (Joe) Poffenbarger, and Tim Vores II; grandchildren, Tyler Poffenbarger, Blake Poffenbarger, Trent Poffenbarger, Michael Poffenbarger, Calyb Toffolo, Alyssa Toffolo, Adelynn Toffolo, Matthew Vores, Jorden Martin, Ashton Worley, Marley Kilgore, JJ Kilgore, Ean Bradley, Eli Tiemeier, Lily Tiemeir, and Bentley Tiemeir; great grandchildren, Emersen Poffenbarger, Truth Vores, and Baby Vores; and his siblings, Michael Songer and Danny Songer.

In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his brother Cleo Songer; daughter, Ashlee Martin; and his granddaughter, Emily Toffolo.

The family will have private services at their convenience. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or online here. You may express condolences or share a memory of Curtis at www.ballardandsons.com.
