Duane “Corky” Buckenroth, 77, passed away on April 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep, abiding devotion to his family.
Born on March 21, 1949, in Sidney, Ohio, Corky developed an early love for music, playing in various bands throughout his youth. At just 15 years old, he met the love of his life, Mary. What began as a young romance grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were united in marriage on July 11, 1970. Together, they built a beautiful life in Indiana, sharing 55 years of marriage marked by steadfast commitment, resilience, and enduring love.
Corky was a devoted husband and a proud father who found his greatest purpose in caring for his family. He and Mary welcomed their only daughter, Kimberley, who remained at the center of his world. Throughout his career as an engineer, Corky contributed his talents to several organizations, traveling the world before ultimately retiring from Rolls-Royce.
To know Corky was to understand his passion for collecting—an interest that reflected his deep appreciation for history, detail, and the stories behind the things he gathered. Though a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. He was deeply loyal, steadfast in his commitments, and a constant presence by Mary’s side, especially through life’s most challenging moments.
His grandson, Greyson Saylor, held a uniquely special place in his heart. Corky’s love for Greyson was profound and unmistakable, and the bond they shared will remain one of the most treasured parts of his legacy.
Corky was intelligent, thoughtful, and passionate—at times strong-willed—but always guided by a kind and gentle heart. His presence brought comfort, stability, and quiet reassurance to those who loved him. In his later years, he found simple joy in caring for the birds and squirrels around his home and in proudly keeping his flags flying high—small, meaningful acts that reflected his steady and caring nature.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Buckenroth; his daughter, Kimberley Saylor; his son-in-law, Derek Saylor; his grandson, Greyson Saylor; and his sister, Carol Fischer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Treva Buckenroth; his father, Emory Buckenroth; and his stepmother, Georgia Buckenroth.
Corky’s life was a testament to enduring love, quiet strength, and the profound impact of simply showing up for the people who mattered most. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
