Edward Johnson, 75, of Daleville, passed away on August 7, 2025. He was born on August 2, 1950, in Muncie, Indiana. He spent his childhood in Chesterfield with his parents, the late Orville and Louise (Gourley) Johnson.
Growing up with his brother Oren Johnson and sister Eloise Holcomb, core memories were made. Ed met his wife Phyllis Imel and married her in 1973. Ed followed his father and became a well-known CB repairman. He was also well known as a small engine repairman. He retired from ADT in Muncie. During his years he was a very proud member of the Chesterfield Volunteer Fire Department, known now as East Madison Township Fire Department, where he served as Chief and Assistant Chief. He also served at Center Township Fire Department. He has also served at Anderson Speedway on their fire safety crew. Being a firefighter and EMT was an important part of his life. He spent many hours helping those in need. He also spent many hours training new Firefighters and became a well-known fire instructor. He handed this part of his life to his son Kevin, daughter Amy, and daughter Joyce, and they experienced their first interior fire with him. His grandsons Brandon and Tyler followed the family tradition, making them proud 3rd generation firefighters.
His hobbies included fishing, camping, woodworking, and general tinkering in the garage with his grandsons Brandon and Tyler. He proudly handed his ability to fix just about anything to them. Most of all he enjoyed being Papaw. He was always spoiling and loving his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his partner in crime, Nana.
Those left to cherish his memory include his adoring wife Phyllis; sons, Edward Jr, Mathew, and Kevin (Angie); daughters, Amy (Dustin), Joyce (Dustin), and Angel (Mike); grandchildren, Katelynn (Dylan), Logan, Brandon (Makayla), Tyler, Jarrod, Zach, Austin, Hannah (Gabe), Grace (Tanner), and Brittany; great grandchildren, Ian, Eli, Maverick, Alexander, Violet, Alexis, Hoggarth, and Eleanor; siblings, Ellie (Don) and Oren; special friends, Jeff Risden, Dana Welker, Jerry and Marilyn Shelton; and his grand dog, Einstein. He became a mentor to many "kids" along the way, and he loved all of them.
He is preceded in death by his parents and special fur baby, Buddy Boy.
