Gerald Leon Haynes

November 28, 1935 — May 26, 2026

New Castle

Gerald Leon Haynes, 90, passed away on May 26, 2026, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on November 28, 1935, in New Castle, to the late Bill and Crystal (Keesling) Haynes.

A graduate of Cadiz High School in 1953, Gerald answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he proudly worked in military intelligence. His time in the service was a significant chapter in his life; one he often spoke about with pride and respect. After his honorable discharge, he brought his strong work ethic to the automotive industry, retiring from Chrysler after years of dedicated service.

Farming was an integral part of Gerald’s life from an early age. He spent countless hours working alongside his grandfather and other family members. His personality was defined by his quiet nature, intelligence, and thoughtful approach to life. He was loved by many and had many friends.

In his younger years, Gerald enjoyed hunting and trapping, while fishing was a lifelong pleasure—especially in Wisconsin. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he found joy in watching western shows and tending to numerous bird feeders, delighting in the sights and sounds of nature. He took great pride in caring for his property, enjoying the peace that came with mowing and maintaining it.

Together with his beloved wife, Gerald attended the Middletown Church of the Nazarene. They also enjoyed traveling, creating memories full of adventure and companionship. His love for racehorses was evident in both ownership and care; he took particular pleasure in attending races at Hoosier Park in Anderson where one of his horses just won a race in early March. Remarkably, the same horse won a race in Minnesota the very night before his passing, a triumph he was able to hear and celebrate.

Above all, Gerald’s heart was filled with love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Dana Orr and Kenneth McBride; grandchildren, Kylie McBride, Kierra McBride, and Kris McBride; and great grandchildren, Hendrix LaForce and Breona LaForce.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Roberta “Bobbie” Haynes; son, Gerry Haynes; siblings, Harold Haynes, Wilma Cory, and Bob Haynes; and granddaughter, Kayla McBride.
