James L. Poor, 91 passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Henry County Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on February 2, 1932 in Byrdstown, Tennessee to the late Edd and Ida Poor. They moved to New Castle when James was 18 months old. When he was in the 6th grade, they moved to the Sulphur Springs area.
James is a 1950 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School. He was employed with Chrysler and farmed. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Evelyn (Fadely). He was in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Quality Steel Treating Company after 38 years. James was a long-time member of the White Union Christian Church.
James is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughter, Debbie (Gary) Hutton; son, David (Debbie) Poor; four grandchildren, Angie (Gary) Davidson, Kelly (Stoddard) Worman, Zach Poor and Hannah (Ethan) Roberts; three great grandchildren, William Davidson, Casey Davidson and Jake Wells; sisters, Geraldine Hay, Linda Poor, Kathy (Jim) Beck; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Dale; sister in-law, Loyce Poor and brother in-law, Ray Hay.
Services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown with Pastor Gordon Barrett officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Union Christian Church at P.O. Box 99, Sulphur Springs, IN 47388, Middletown EMS at Box 1, Middletown, IN 47356 and Sulphur Springs Fire Department at 401 Main Street, Sulphur Springs, Indiana 47388. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
