Janna Sorg

Janna Lynn Sorg—a lover of nature, animals, her family and God—died unexpectedly at her home on May 5, 2026. She was 79 years old.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don Sorg; her children Lisa Sorg, Matthew Sorg (Mollie), and Jessica Sorg-Sweeney (Don); granddaughter Lanie Sorg, and her beloved dogs and cats, all of them rescues.

Janna was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Edith (Lewis) Creason, her aunt, Mary (Lewis) Smith; her sister, Debra Creason, and very special kitten, Cookie.

Janna was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Anderson, Indiana, and grew up near Middletown. She attended Middletown High School, and then, after seeing a man at a party who had “silver eyes,” married Don Sorg—who has green eyes—on Aug. 29,1964.

Three children followed, to which she was utterly devoted. She taught them to read before they went to school, attended their extracurricular activities, and, when they became adults, unceasingly rooted for their happiness and success.

A devout Catholic, Janna was active in Right to Life and loved her church family. She also prayed the rosary for all of her children as they made—and overcame—the mistakes of their youth.

Janna had a wry sense of humor. She laughed easily and often, and the sound of her laughter filled the house, as did the aroma of her famous pumpkin pies. Fearless, she stood up to power, especially in an era when women were supposed to be submissive.

She lived in a 19-acre woods all of her adult life, where every day she marveled at the innate majesties of the natural world and expressed her love and compassion for all animals, wild and tame.

Visitation will take place Sunday, May 10, from 3-6 pm at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. Fifth St., Middletown. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 11, at 10:30 am, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 102 N. 19th St., New Castle, with Father Michael Puthumaisavari presiding. Burial at Mechanicsburg Cemetery will follow.
