John Charles Razor

September 18, 1922 — June 5, 2026

Sulphur Springs

John Charles Razor, 103, was born at home on September 18, 1922, in Prairie Township, Henry County, Indiana. His parents were Sarah Belle (Atchison) and Fant J. Razor. John was the second child in what would become a family of nine children, including two sets of fraternal twin brothers. He was a 1940 graduate of Mt. Summit High School, where he participated in basketball and baseball and was a pole vaulter in track.

During World War II, John served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked for 44 years at Delco-Remy in Anderson, Indiana. On April 13, 1941, John married Marjorie Ellen Stohler. They were married for 68 years, until Marjorie's death in 2009. They were partners in both love and life. They built their second home in 1960 and shared in the construction work whenever possible, as well as the many landscaping projects they planted and cared for throughout the years.

John was a worker to the point that it seemed all work projects became his hobbies. He often worked on home projects before or after his Delco-Remy shifts. Even when help was offered, his answer was usually, "Thanks, but I can handle this job all by myself." Solving a project problem was always a satisfying challenge to him. He worked on his own cars throughout the years before many components became computerized. John was also a founding member in 1952 of the Jefferson Township Fire Department in Sulphur Springs. Dedicated to serving his community, he remained an active member for more than 25 years.

At age 96, family members arrived to find he had purchased a new water heater, brought it into the house, installed it himself, and moved the old one to the garage—all without assistance. Family also received more than a few calls over the years reporting that John was on the roof or up in a tree, even into his late 90s. He continued to mow his yard until the age of 101. His independence, determination, and ability to do every job meticulously never ceased to amaze those who knew him. After a fall, he moved to Muncie Estates in February of this year to be nearer to the care of his daughter and granddaughter.

In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Marjorie, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Stone, Hazel Keesling, Mayme Haynes, and Juanita Leffingwell; and his brothers, Robert, Richard, Clay, and Ray Razor.

Survivors include his daughter, Melanie, and his son, Brad (Mary) Razor; grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Yakos, Kim Pfeifer (Doug), and Julie Frigo (James); great-grandchildren, Marigail and Ali Yakos and Sydney (Josh) Wilkinson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 12 at Mt. Summit Cemetery at 1pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. You may express condolences or share memories of John at www.ballardandsons.com.
