Judy Kay DesCombes, 81, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, at The Legacy on Bethany Pointe's campus in Anderson, Indiana.
Judy was born on January 8, 1945, to Dorothy and Benjamin George in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Growing up in Catawissa, she remembered the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with fondness, but in her early high school years, the family moved to Florida where she attended and then graduated from North Miami Beach High School. On August 4,1963, she married Martin Desombes and the two of them enjoyed over 9 years of marriage before Martin was tragically killed in a car accident. Judy stepped from that sorrow with resilience to raise three young children alone and pursue a career of helping others enduring difficult seasons of their lives. She moved the family to Clarks Summit, PA while she attended Baptist Bible College and Seminary, earning her Bachelor’s degree. Back in Florida, she served as Dean of Women at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College. Then in 1983, they moved again to Winona Lake, Indiana, where Judy earned her Master’s degree in counseling from Grace Seminary. The remainder of her career years were spent as a Christian Counselor in Lakeland, Florida; Sebring, Florida; and Cleveland, Georgia.
Her passion to serve others flowed from her love for her Savior Jesus Christ. Most recently she attended Cleveland First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Georgia.
Judy leaves behind her three children, Martin (Donna) DesCombes of Lakeland, Florida, Mechelle (Scott) Farrell of Anderson, Indiana, and Jeremy (Carrie) DesCombes of Petal, Mississippi, along with 11 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren who called her “Honey Grams”. She is survived as well by her sister, Karen (John) Nelson and her closest friend of many years, Lura Walsh.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, her parents, Benjamin and Dorothy (Bunger) George, her sister, Jane Halladay, and her brother, Benjamin George.
A private ceremony will be held at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland, Florida. You may express condolences or share a memory of Judy at www.ballardandsons.com.
