Marybell Spiker, 85, of Middletown passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital-Anderson. She was born October 9, 1936 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Frank and Helen (Strickland) Begley.
She was a 1955 graduate of Anderson High School, then later joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1959-1961. While in the Air Force, she earned her Associates Degree in Telephone Communications. She helped set up the switchboard at the Community Hospital. Marybell loved watching her grandchildren play sports and was everyone's "softball grandma". She worked many years at the Shenandoah High School cafeteria and was also involved in the high school band. She loved cooking, crocheting, sewing, baking and cake decorating. Marybell was a member of the Madison County Square Dance Club and Valley Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Douglas (Pat) Spiker, Melissa Spiker-Bunch, Stephen Spiker all of Middletown; grandchildren, Douglas (LaNette) Spiker II, MaryKatherine (Sarah) Spiker, Christian Jennings, Bella Marie (Patrick) Plemons and Ashley Spiker (Dreyvin Swanson); great grandchildren, Warren and Vivian Spiker, Theo-Due in August, and another one due in January; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Sumner Spiker and a sister, Frances Spiker.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from Ascension St. Vincent, hospice staff, and staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown for the exceptional care Marybell received.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown with Anthony Wren officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Middletown American Legion.
