Scottsdale

Mauri Jay Harry, age 70, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on the morning of September 29, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Mauri, known to his family and friends as “Jay”, was born on April 18, 1956, in Anderson, Indiana, to James Robert Harry and Rahamadonis (Farmer) Harry. He grew up in Middletown, Indiana, and attended both Purdue University and Ball State University.

Jay was truly one of a kind, a national treasure to those who knew him. He had a goofy, unforgettable personality, a strong work ethic, and a presence that was impossible to replace. As his family often said, they just don’t make fathers like him anymore.

Boating was a major part of Jay’s life for more than 30 years. He was part of the boating community on Lake Monroe in Indiana and later spent time on Lake Havasu and Canyon Lake in Arizona.

Jay was deeply proud of his four children. He attended every graduation and every wedding, always showing up for the milestones that mattered most. He was also a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren, with one more grandchild on the way from his youngest daughter.

Jay is survived by his children and their spouses: Andrea (Harry) and Aaron Ballard of Noblesville, Indiana; Shelby (Harry) and Chris Sears of Lapel, Indiana; Chad and Marrissa (Sanchez) Harry of Phoenix, Arizona; and Alaina (Harry) and Maxwell Sands of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carter, Brayden, Hailee, Samantha, and Kinley.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9th at 1:00 pm at Miller Cemetery in Middletown, IN. Details regarding a memorial service or celebration of life in Arizona will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jay’s memory to Highlands Church at 9050 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale, Arizona 85255, where he faithfully attended Sunday services each week. You may express condolences or share a memory of Jay at www.ballardandsons.com.
