Richard F. Brooks

October 10, 1974 — July 11, 2022

Richard F. Brooks, 47 battle ended at his Muncie, Indiana home after an agonizingly long fight with multiple health problems.  He endured so very much, may he finally find his much deserved peace, with his parents who he recently lost.

Rich was a 1993 Art Honors graduate and four sport lettermen of Shenandoah High School, best remembered for playing Raider's football. Also, a 1998 graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in criminal justice & Criminology, with a minor in Army ROTC Military Science, and a member of EN/Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Proud to be an honorary firefighter of Muncie Fire Department, Anderson Fire Department, Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Yorktown Fire Department. He also went through Delaware County Sheriffs Department training, worked for the Ball State University Police Department, went to Indiana State Police Camp, and many ride alongs with the Albany Police Department.

Growing up with a dad that worked at Chevrolet Muncie Transmission, a mom who worked for Ball State, one uncle serving as a Sheriff's detective, another was a fire chief and another founded
Brooks Body Shop.  His cousins also served on other area departments for generations. He was so proud of his family history here.

As a car enthusiast, he enjoyed driving very fast in hot rod muscle cars and cool sport cars. He liked going with his dad to car shows, car auctions, or to junk yards to look for parts of a car project they were working on together. He built his first car at 15.

Without a doubt though, his greatest passion in life was being a biker, Rich loved riding motorcycles.  He had been riding motorcycles since the young age of four. Rich always enjoyed cruising the back country roads of Indiana on a loud Harley-Davidson, usually with a pretty girl on the back sharing that special moment in time.

"Ricky" was the only son of recently belated (2022) father, Francis and recently belated (2021) mother, Peggy Brooks of Muncie. His father was a U.S. Army Sergeant during the Vietnam War and passed from health complication due to Agent Orange, while his mother passed away unexpectedly, his parents were sweethearts since they met as teenagers at the lakes and then married for a wonderful 52 years. He is also preceded in death by the heartbreaking loss of his two babies from different relationships.

There will be no services at this time per the family's request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. You may express condolences or share a memory of Rich at www.ballardandsons.com
