Richard "Rick" Tompkins

Richard Lee Tompkins, 72, of Frankton passed on Tue, Sept 14, 2021. He was born on Tuesday, May 10, 1949 in Anderson, IN to Donald E. Tompkins and Nelda E. Wogerman.



Richard was a 67 graduate of Anderson High School and went in to the U.S. Marine Corp in 69 where he served in Vietnam, and later shipped to Okinawa, Japan. He returned to Indiana to attend Ball State majoring in Business Management and minoring in Political Science. He served in the Student Senate and then was elected President of the Student Association.  Richard's love for the outdoors steered him for employment with Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks and Reservoirs, and then he pursued employment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security.  Richard retired in 2018 and settled in Frankton, Indiana in a house he helped build.  In his retirement he thoroughly enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and maintaining his new home and property. His passion however; was helping anyone in need that the Lord put in his path.



Richard is survived by his wife, Jeanie, his daughter Kathleen "Kat" (Keenan) Temple of Johns Creek, GA, Keelie Hanna of St. Augustine, FL, Talla Hanna of Frankton, Dacon Hanna of Frankton, Damon (Lisa) Hanna of Frankton; grandchildren, Aiden, Brody, Payton, and many step-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Shreffler (Rick) of Anderson, William "Butch" (Paulette) Tompkins of Anderson, Joseph (Kim) Tompkins of Anderson, Elaine Carol (Ralph) George of Anderson,  Cheryl "Rusty" (Joe) Barkdull of Yorktown, Mark Tompkins of Anderson, Greg (Donna) Tompkins of Anderson; an uncle, William Billy (Kay) Butler of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Edward Russell, sister Lajuana Russell, and several aunts, uncles, and a nephew.

Services will be held at 7:00pm Monday September 20, 2021 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until time of service on Monday. In lieu of flowers donations may be may to Wounded Warrior Project - Donate in the name of Richard Tompkins.  Online guestbook is available at www.ballardandsons.com .
