Scott L. Vannatter, 66, of Middletown, IN passed away on April 26th, 2024 from a stroke, with loved ones by his side. He was the first born to Richard and Mary Vannatter and will be greatly missed. The family has comfort knowing that after Scott had briefly visited Heaven during his first stroke in 2010, he always reassured his loved ones he would be okay when his time came.
A curious and intelligent man of many talents, Scott had a Masters in English, a successful first career in computer systems and a second career as a middle school teacher where he changed the lives of his students. He served as Lay Leader for his church, performed in international choirs, and was captain of his high school golf team. Having a lifelong passion for books, he became an author with multiple published works. He touched many people's lives through his online writing where he shared his views on life, the universe, and everything. Scott loved to play chess, Scrabble, and games of all kinds. He had a way of turning anything into a game to ease the hardships of those close to him and bring them joy.
As a sensitive soul, Scott had a unique way of fearing the worst and believing the best. His faith in life and his words of encouragement to those close to him showed he always knew everything would work out. He was a dreamer, full of hope and possibility, whose imagination and stories inspired others and brought them together. He will always be remembered for his kindness and compassion, gentle smile, encouraging words, love of puns, and sense of wonder.
He is survived by his mother, Mary; children Aaron (Katie) and Aarika (Josh); niece Adrienne (Lance); grandnieces Karlee and Kloee and grandnephews Tyler and Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Vannatter, and his sister, Darci Hill.
Services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday May 4, 2024 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
