Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Sue Ann Keesling, 78, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2025. Sue was born December 13, 1946, in New Castle, Indiana, to the late Walter L. Huser and Elsie Reedy Huser.
She grew up in Middletown, Indiana, where she met and married her husband of fifty-four years, Jim Keesling. Sue worked for thirty years as a registered nurse in family practice, and later went back to school to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner. She taught nursing in Anderson, Indiana, where she enjoyed encouraging the next generation of nurses. Sue was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, and a lifelong learner. Her family will remember her for her ever-growing collection of Snoopy figurines, and for her love of A Prairie Home Companion, the state of Indiana, the music of Paul Simon, and historical documentaries. Sue never missed cheering on her beloved Pacers, and she found great joy in annual family celebrations of the Fourth of July at Conner Prairie. She adored her dogs, Linus and Schroeder, who never strayed far from her side. Sue was an active member of the Middletown United Methodist Church in Middletown, Indiana, and she served in missions to Belize, Haiti, and Ivory Coast. Above all, Sue was most proud of her role as a mother to her two daughters and beloved Mamaw to four grandchildren. She believed in the Methodist core value of social justice and encouraged her daughters to advocate for their beliefs.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmie Huser.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Keesling of Jefferson, GA; daughters, Sara Mixon of Jefferson, GA, and Carrie Keesling-Getz (Jeff) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Avery Carson (Brett) of Athens, GA, Andy Mixon, Aiden Mixon, and Asher Mixon, all of Jefferson, GA; nephew, Jay Huser (Jennifer) and their children, Josh (Megan) and Jannaye, all of Middletown, IN. Sue’s lifelong best friends, Linda Gavin (Tony) of Anderson, IN, and Penny Bullock of Middletown, IN, also survive.
The family will celebrate Sue’s life with a private memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) https://umcmission.org/umcor/
