Mechanicsburg.... Marie Gadberry, 90, of Mechanicsburg went to be with our Lord Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown after a hard battle with Covid-19.
She was born March 29, 1930 in Willow Branch the daughter of Charles T. and Ethel Cook Davis. She was one of fifteen children raised by her parents, ten from their union and four from Charles' previous marriage as well as one granddaughter. Charles' first wife passed during the Spanish Flu Epidemic.
Marie married her husband Willie Gadberry, July 23, 1945 and enjoyed 47 years together before his passing in 1992 to cancer. They worked side by side to build their home in Mechanicsburg to give their children a better life. they moved into the home in the summer of 1955.
Marie was well know for her cooking skills. She enjoyed nothing more than preparing a large Sunday dinner for her family and friends.. Her Thanksgiving dinners would feed everyone for days after the feast and her pies were the best part of any meal and eaten first if she didn't catch you.
The marriage was blessed with four children; Helen Gadberry, David Gadberry, Sharon Fields (Max) and Teresa Elliott (Todd), six grandchildren; Anita (Pottorff) Marsh (Andy), Robert "Alan" Pottorff, Russell Bradford Fields, Bridget Purdue, Tammie Starkey (Kevin) and Tristen Elliott, seven great grandchildren, 2 bonus great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and 3 bonus great great grandchildren, all of which survive her.
She is also survived by her siblings Harmon Davis of Deland, FL, Nalvin Davis, Anderson, Dale Davis of Markleville, Clifford (Shirley) Davis of Spencer, Arlene (Harold "Bud") Merchant of Spencer, a niece, Martha Willis of Phoenix, AZ, and a sister-in-law, Maxine Davis of Jabez, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings; Andrew Davis, Lowry "Chic" Davis, Loraine Edwards, Lawrence Davis, Bertha Lee Sharp, Mary Lou McDonald and Geraldine Perkins.
She was a member of the Middletown Order of the Eastern Star.
Services will be held on Saturday January 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 South 5th, Middletown with Pastor Philip C. Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Due to CDC requirement and state Covid-19 mandates only 50 people will be allowed within the funeral home at any time and masks, social distancing and hand sanitation will be required.
